This morning, I got up and went out to get some sun. It was only 8 am, and the sun was already burning hot, along with the sand. I did not have any plans for the day other than getting some work for my biology class done. I needed to test the pH of the water to see if pesticides and fertilizers from the islanders had an effect on the water.
Many of the group members wanted to go to south beach or go north to see what else was on the island. Heather and I decided to stay back, because Heather did not want to get on one of the motorbikes. It is against SAS policy to do that. Instead, we headed over to get a massage and pedicures. We got our massage right on the beach; it was kinda sketchy, but still relaxing.
The groups came back and we went to get some ice cream and meet up with the other SASers that we had finally found. Earlier in the day, they found us and told us that all of the ferries off of the island were booked and the plane flights too. They had plans to take a fishing boat back to the mainland, and then get a bus back to Saigon. It turns out, that if I had gone with the group to South Beach, I would have been in an accident. Ayla and Garry ended up getting run off the road by another bike, and she skinned her toes really badly.
We got to the ice cream place , and the other group never showed up. Half of the group then went to get a traditional dinner, while three of us stayed behind to see if the group would come. Instead, Garry and Bryson came back with some eggs. One of them had been cracked open, so I offered to open it the rest of the way. We went across the street, and I took a toothpick to the egg. When we could finally see in, there was a duckling in it! We eventually got the whole shell off and were able to see the little baby. It was adorable. The rest of the group came back, and we had a debate on what to do with it. There was nothing to do to save the egg. Once Lindsey had cracked it, the duckling wasn’t going to make it. After much debate and finally a decision, we headed back to the bungalow for the night. I don’t know what the decision was; I did not stay around to find out.
