There were random little shops where you could buy tickets to the ferries. Only one place had tickets left for 8 am. They were originally 320,000 dong, which is about 15 dollars, but since they were the only tickets, they wanted to charge us 450,000 Vietnamese dong. They said they had tickets for all 13 of us, so some of the guys started to buy them, but after 5 tickets, they ran out. They found some more tickets though, for nine o’clock, but they would not give us the real price. We went to another ticket counter, the official one, and they didn’t have the tickets either. The guy followed us though and talked to the man behind the counter, so we believe that he tried to tell the man not to sell us any morning tickets so that he could sell them to us and split the profit. The rest of us just got tickets for 1pm. To pass the time, we got a hotel room to catch up on some sleep, since none of us really slept well.
We finally got on the ferry after a much restful sleep. They showed a Vietnamese movie about some guy who was fighting a group of men with hatchets. It was all in Vietnamese, so it was very hard to understand. Impossible really. They showed us another movie too, and this one had English subtitles. This one was too hard for me to pay attention though. It took three hours for the ferry to cross the water and get to Phu Quoc, but we finally made it.
When the group got off, we found a French couple who told us they were going to Long Beach. This is where the eight of us decided to go. We found a taxi, and after explaining to them that they would not drive us in circles and overcharge us, we got in and made our way to Long Beach. It was a fifteen minute drive across the island; it is very small.
We were dropped off right by some bungalows, but we decided to keep looking for one that we had looked up. The group of us walked down some dirty alley. You never would have expected anything to come from it, but we eventually found the ocean, and the bungalow we wanted. It was right on the beach. You could walk 15 feet and be on the sand. It was truly incredible. The thought of what it was like just brings back so many emotions. It only costs us each 34 dollars for two nights. Everything in Vietnam was so cheap.
We went out on the beach to explore and get some sun, and then it was time for dinner. We ate dinner on the beach. Everyone ordered multiple things, but did not pay more than 20 dollars for their meal. Many of the group had a four course meal. It was so good. I had chicken cordon bleu. I did not feel like having any fish. I was so sick of it by that point. We got to see the sunset on the beach, and it is something I wont forget.
After a long day, most of us went back to our bungalows to sleep, but some of the group went to a beach party that was going on that night. I went to sleep; I was so exhausted.
